VPL LASER TREATMENTS
The VPL (Variable Pulsed Light) Laser was developed to provide more effective treatments and greatly minimize the potential side effects usually associates with darker skin types.
At The Skin Center of North Carolina we have found that the VPL Laser is the most beneficial laser to treat a variety of conditions.
As a laser hair removal system, the Variable Pulsed Light Laser removes unwanted hair on all body parts and skin types (except white hair). VPL achieves this by converting light energy into heat. The heat transfers down the hair shaft, and when the temperature at the base of the hair shaft reaches 70⁰ C, the follicle will be destroyed.
Fine lines and wrinkles - Photo rejuvenation is an overall skin conditioning treatment, where fine lines, wrinkles, rosacea, sun damage, age spots, and freckles can be treated simultaneously. The treatments are performed in a series and the results build onto one another. A series would consist of one treatment for every decade of the patients life performed 3 weeks apart. So if a person, age 48, were to receive treatment, they would most like see the best results by completing a series of 5 treatments, 3 weeks apart.
Spider Veins, Thread Veins, Cherry Spots, Port Wine Stains, Hemangiomas, Facial Blood Vessels - The VPL Laser targets the Hemoglobin(contained in red blood cells). Basically, the darker colored hemoglobin absorbs more of the light, heat, and energy than the surrounding lighter skin color. The light energy is absorbed and converted into heat. If enough heat can be absorbed fast enough, the hemoglobin will turn into a solid. In solid form the blood is then able to filter up through the layers of the epidermis and is finally removed by the normal process of dead cell removal. This process takes 8 – 12 weeks to occur.
We have also found tremendous success using the VPL laser for acne and tattoo removal.
